My Matariki Reflection.

What lessons have I learnt this year:
Some lessons that I learnt this year actually changed me for the better, alot of these lessons have been regarding physical health and awareness. The biggest lesson I have learnt is that you do actually need lots of exercises, for a long time I have been doing minimal exercise for quite some time. Another lesson that I actually have learnt this year is this you can’t just fill up on juices and drinks filled with sugar. I used to only drink juice, fizzy drink and other sweet beverages but I have learnt that lesson, even though Matariki is a time for leisure It is also a time for knowledge, the knowledge I had was not to stay un-fit and unhealthy.

Another few lessons I have learnt this year is that you don’t need to be going to the supermarket constantly and can work with what you’ve got, even though Matariki states that the winter stocks were plentiful, many people’s “stocks” were low, but people (our family included) learn this lesson, to work with what you’ve got. This pandemic and lockdown have brought many lessons, especially handwashing. Alot of people didn’t wash their hands often enough before this pandemic but I feel that lesson as been spread onwards to everyone.

I have learnt that staying at home and connecting with your Whanau is very important, home-cooked dinner every night is ok and spending most of your time with your family and people in your bubble really helps to build a stronger relationship with those close to you. And that you should spend more time being with those you love. I used to spend the majority of my time cooped up in my room but have learnt to not be in there constantly and to spend time with my Whanau and those in my bubble.

My successes this year:
I have been getting out more and enjoying the sun like I said I spent most of my time outside; Rarely ever going for walks and getting outside. My main success this year was going for a 20-minute walk every day; which was also a success for my Dad, he is also always cooped up in his little hut on his computer all day, but it’s his job so it’s reasonable.

I have also succeeded at not being as lazy, I have actually been bothered to do SOME things. If they are kinda fun and not just boring. Succeeding at not being lazy wasn’t really a success in my book but I’ll include it as it probably wasn’t good and feel I have succeeded not being as lazy as I was. Even though lockdown is getting to me, and so is the couch. I’m still going to attempt to persevere.

I’m not sure if our family has had any major milestones in the past year. I think my grandpa died; Not sure though. The biggest milestone that we’ve had in the past year was probably something about our horse or something. We did birth some puppies but that was pretty minor. We haven’t moved anywhere or travelled, we never travel and maybe 2 people died, not sure if that was a few years ago. The birth ties to that too.

The past year.
For me, the past year has been great. I’ve been getting more into my hobbies like shooting, target shooting. Shooting animals, playing pool, skinning animals and collecting knives.

The past year has been really great, even though it was a slow year it was fun. It was a very enjoyable year and I found out some of my favourite things that year. Like this good food that I had one time. And getting some of my proudest possessions. It wasn’t a very eventful year but it was still pretty mediocre, sorta fun. The past year for me was great. I haven’t been hit by a car, and I’m still alive, so it’s safe to say the past 12 months have been pretty good.

ANZAC Radio Interview

One of our writing activities is to do a group collaboration activity on a script for a radio interview, POV or back in the days in the ANZAC times, I chose to work alone and to do a radio interview with AI-Generated voices.

The video is asking questions about the war and answering them with facts we learnt in prior activities and other things, also to give it a human touch.

What I found challenging about this was editing the video to get it all nice and flush and not choppy. It was also how WeVideo kept crashing.

What I enjoyed about this activity was the writing, I loved writing the script and the editing; even though it was challenging it was fun. I also enjoyed reviewing the final product and was pretty happy with it.

Book Characters 3 wishes

I am reading a book called: "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" for 20 minutes a day, for a reading activity, we were asked the hypothetical question of: "If a genie were to pop into the midpoint of your book and grant the 2 main characters 3 wishes each what would they be?"

The 2 main characters in the book:

Arthur dent

Ford Prefect

3 wishes I would imagine Arthur to have would be:

For his house to not be destroyed

To still be on earth with his non destroyed house

To get home

3 wishes I think Ford would have:

Infinite Alchohol

A forever lasting party

Plenty of towels.

ANZAC History Facts.

Coming up to ANZAC Day most of our activities are ANZAC Related, today we went through a list of facts to see which ones surprised us and why. Some of these facts were really unbeknownst to me and really put a perspective in.

No.1 Fact: ANZAC Day is commemorated in France in the towns of Le Quesnoy and Longueval. I really had no idea that anywhere in France celebrated ANZAC Day, nor that France had anything to do with the war what so ever; I thought that France didn't have anything to do with the invasion of Gallipoli, 1915. I thought it was just New Zealand, Australia and Tonga and the cook islands; who helped during the war.

No.2 Fact: There is no town called “Gallipoli”. It is the name of an area. I always thought that Gallipoli was a town in Turkey, or a city and nit a Peninsula; I thought the would name the town they landed in not the name of the area take the invasion of Normandy for example; I thought that they would keep it as the name of the city, not the area.

No.3 Fact: The wearing of rosemary on ANZAC Day is done as a mark of respect for the men who never returned from Gallipoli, or indeed, later wars. The wearing of it honours the memory of those brave men. Rosemary? Who would've thought they sued rosemary to commemorate the fallen men in the Battle of Gallipoli, or later wars; I thought it was aways just a poppy and nothing else, the poppy was always the sign and I have never heard of wearing rosemary. It also goes well with beef.

What was good about this activity is that it was laid out easily, and you didn't have to go hunting for facts that everyone already knows. This had some really good facts and really unknown facts as well.

What was difficult about this activity was that some of these facts I had never heard of and wouldn't have had any clue of; so I thought a few might be lies. I also found it hard to choose 3 as there were so many to pick.

Flights to Australia: Time, Travel distance, cost and routes.

WALT: Gather information about flight times, routes, travel distances and cost.

Our Maths activity today was to find flights to Australia, gather the Time to get to the destination, the routes, the travel distance and the cost of the flights.

Each of the 5 cities are all different in terms of cost, time and routes.

The longest flight being Perth, 17 hours and 30 minutes long, also being the most expensive coming in at $1,442 dollars; Followed by Canberra with $1,326 being $116 dollars behind.

Maybe you could use this as a travel guide if you ever want to go to Australia, or just to cross-examine to see which is cheaper and a better option to choose if you do ever go on vaction.

20 Minute Book intro

Hello, this video is explaining to you the book that I'm going to be reading for 20 minutes a day, starting today.

This book is called the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, by Douglas Adams. This book was suggested to me by my Dad as he thought it was a funny book.

The origin of this book was a tent in Europe, Douglas Adams was backpacking around Europe with a book called "Europe on 10 dollars a day", Douglas was bored in his tent and decided to write a book series called: "Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy."

ANZAC Tribute.

World War 1 will always be a significant part in NZ and Australian History, specifically the invasion of Gallipoli, April 15th, 1915, where more the 50,000 Australians landed, and over 8556 NZ Soldiers landed on the Turkish Peninsula of Gallipoli.

Some videos about the Battle will be put into this slide along with some songs to go with them.

Video About the ANZAC Exhibit at Te Papa. This video tells the story of a Medic in the battle of Gallipoli, a Nurse and a Soldier in the Māori Battalion. This video tells the story from the New Zealand side of things.

Australian Version, This video tells the story of the invasion of Gallipoli on the Australian side of things, it has a more vast outlook and is overseeing the whole battle and the struggles of soldiers, not just 2.

Here are some of the first songs from World War 1:

This is one of the first songs. Pictures of the soldiers play throughout the background of this video. This song was sung and created by the Australian soldiers in World war 1, They created this song to sing at the hill of Achi Babi, which was never captured.

This is the Maori Battalion Marching Song. This song was played and sang by the Maori Battalion in world war 1, the soldiers marched to this song and chanted it throughout the battle.

Australian War hero songs. This song is a tribute to all the War Hero’s of World War 1 in the Australian army.
