Equivalent Fractions

Equivalent Fractions

WALT: Understand Equivalent Fractions on a Year 8/9 level.

In this video it is me and Harlem providing you with some tips and a quick run-through on how to do equivalent fractions, to break it down in case the sick techno drowned the music out I will give you a quick rundown.

First, you look at the two fractions, look at the top number on the left and right and figure out how many times the left goes into the right, and then multiply that number by the bottom one to get the answer on the right. This activity is available on MathsBuddy for anyone to try, review this video if you would like and leave a comment to tell us how we did.

Another rundown on another type of equivalent fractions problem, say you were met with "Which is the same as 1/3?" First, you would multiply the top number by 3 to see if it went into the bottom, and boom you have the answer.

Great B and Northern Ireland medals

WALT: Create a Bar Graph showcasing the Olympic Medals won by Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

In this activity, we were asked to compile a simple table of things and dates into a bar graph, these dates and times were all Olympic times and Medals won by Great Britain and Northern Ireland in the Paralympic games throughout the past 6 Olympic games, I will leave the link to this table below.

This activity was simple and gave a quick refresher on how to do a Bar graph and tally information, whilst also tying into our Olympics/Paralympics inquiry, give this a go for yourself with another inquiry topic and tell me how you get on.

Paralympic Swimming Times

WALT: Work with timesheets and graphs

One of our home learning activates today was to take this worksheet from the Class site, review it and place in the fastest times from each Pool of Paralympic swimmers, This activity was as simple as it gets, unless there is something I am missing.

Hope you learned something about the Paralympic swimming times from this spreadsheet, get your teacher to get your class to do this as well if you want, stay safe and keep blogging.

Converting Improper Fractions to Mixed numbers

WALT: Learn to convert improper fractions into a mixed number using long division.

As our Maths activity today we were tasked with reviewing a slideshow full of Improper fractions and were told to watch a youtube guide on how to convert said fractions into mixed numbers. This activity was extremely basic and simple once you begin to understand it, it is simple division mixed with addition and multiplication.

This task involves dividing numbers into each other, taking the results and using that to get the correct answer. This activity was challenging at the start, as I had to re watch the video several times during the first 2, but after that I got the hang of it, after that point it was smooth sailing.

I enjoyed this activity because it introduced me to some new Maths problems, before this I had no idea of what a mixed number even meant, leat alone how to convert one.

Please point out any mistakes or questions I got wrong in the comments and I will be sure to correct them, give it a go for yourself; ask your teacher if you can do a lesson on this.

Happy lockdown.

Great Walks Brochure

WALT: Make a brochure about the 10 great walks in New Zealand.

This slideshow showcases the 10 great walks in New Zealand and a little bit of information about them and why you should go on these walks, these walks are a great way to get out and see the outdoor environment. I found this easy to do since all of the facts were readily available on the DOC website, I did find it a little bit challenging to come up with some showcasing language and explaining words/descriptions about the places.

Energy Inquiry

WALT: Create a project relating back to our energy inquiry.

We did an inquiry that was based on energy, my friend Harlem and I made a video explaining Wind/Turbine energy with a twist, the video was informative and explained how it works and what turbines do, and what happens when the wind goes through them.

I liked doing this and all the information was readily available so it was easy to achieve, try make your own little project and tell me how it goes in the comments.

My Jackdaw

WALT: Create a Jackdaw showing and explaining what you learned whilst reading the book.

As a part of our novel study tasks, we were told to make a jackdaw, taking aspects of the story and different key points and ideas and organizing them in a poster type design. For us to be successful we had to write a bit about the main/important characters, the plot, moral, theme and setting.

I found it easy to do since I remember most of the things we had to put down, it was pretty fun and I recommend you give it a go for your own reading to be able to remember the facts more, and make it more interesting.

ANZAC Photo Slideshow

For this activity we made a photo slideshow that showed some of the ANZAC soldiers and representations of them whilst they were in battle, the point of this slideshow was to showcase some of the ANZAC soldiers and the hardships they faced, I also included some misc examples of different aspects of the first world war.

I found this easy to do since it was just adding a bunch of photos onto a slide, we did this to show small glimpses of what it was like in the first world war.

Maori Contingent Propaganda

WALT: Create a poster convincing someone to join the Maori Contingent in World War 1.

The Maori Contingent was a primarily Maori New Zealand battalion in World War 1, even though the majority of the Senior Officers and High-Command were Pakeha it was a primarily Maori fighting force, it was the first of its kind and invited any and all Maori people to join the fight.

I found it easy to make since it was just a few images and some text.

Digital Dig

WALT: Learn to do more with our Chromebooks.

For our Digital-Dig we dived more into what we can do on our Chromebooks and how we can use them more efficiently, we learned how to use our Chromebook shortcuts even more than we already do and learned some more helpful tips on how to use our Chromebooks better than we know how to do.

I found it easy to do this activity because I already knew most of the Shortcuts and how to do most of this since I have did this activity before, it was challenging to find a shortcut that I didn't know.

Kinetic vs Potential energy Experiment

WALT: Make and document a science experiment that defined and showcased Kinetic and Potential Energy.

My friend Liam and I made an educational video about Kinetic Vs Potential energy, in this experiment we made a Paper Plane launcher using a rubber band, the rubber band was pulled back, causing the potential energy to be harnessed, once it was let go and the plane was flown that Potential energy was transformed into motion.

I enjoyed it because it was hands-on work and it was fun to make and use, I found it difficult to find a plane design we liked and wanted to use.

How does Wind & Sun affect your daily life?

WALT: Create an informative Brainstorm with collective ideas which gather how sun and Wind affect your daily life.

I made a Brainstorm that defined the underlying and most common types of things that are affected by the Sun and Wind energy. This Brainstorm gave you a few examples of how the Sun and Wind affect some people's daily lives and gives some activities that it is used in and how they are enhanced; and how some are hindered.

Give this a try yourself and blog it, leave some feedback in the comments below.

What activites require the Power of the Wind and Sun?

WALT: Create a Brainstorm that defines what Activities you do that engage the Energy of the Wind and the Sun.

I had to create a brainstorm that brought together all of the ideas that I could think of when it came to what activities harness the Wind and or Sun, have a read; then leave me some feedback in the Comments.

I found it easy to do it since I just thought off the top of my head and wrote them, it wasn't challenging, have a go and see if you can do the same as I did, gather all of your ideas and blog them.

Tidy Drive

WALT: Learn how to keep your documents filed in a folder and to keep your Drive tidy.

For this Cybersmart challenge, I had to make a slideshow that determined the contents of the Folders in a man called "John's" Drive, I had to file some of John's work into the correct folders after that had happened we had to circle the Untitled documents and the ones not named correctly (Without his name before it.)

I hope you learned something from this work and hope you can leave a comment below with feedback.

Energy Word Map

WALT: Create a Word Map describing 2 or more different types of energy.

For one of our T-Shaped Literacy activities we had to make a digital word map that showcased 2 or more different types of energy, what they do and an image of them; the energies I chose were Solar, Thermal, and Nuclear Energy (Put Chemical by accident.) This drawing explained what the energy uses were and how to use them. We had to describe the definition and also give a description of what it was.

I found it easy to do most of it as all of the information was ready to look at and easy to convey to the audience. It wasn't very hard to find the facts and I also had prior knowledge relating to it.

Please enjoy the drawing and leave me some feedback in the comments.

Chemical spill in Manakau

WALT: Research and create an informative Google Drawing showcasing a current event in time.

This post is about a recent chemical spill that happened a few weeks ago in Manakau Harbour, you can get all of the information from this post, if you want to cite my sources then leave a comment and I will get back to you.

I found it easy to receive and find this information as it was quite a mainstream event with severe effects, damaging the surrounding area and infecting the water with harmful chemicals. I found it difficult to get a few images and some of the sources didn't clarify what exactly happened.

I hope you enjoy the post, learn something and hope you can leave me a comment down below on what I can do to improve.

Energy Mobile

For our T-Shaped Literacy, we also made a Mobile that showcases the different symbols of energy and gives a diagram of them. It shows the different types of common energy and a drawing to go with it. I found it easy because I just traced all the images, what I found challenging was making it, since I had a lack of materials and the cardboard kept sagging, so I let it droop.

WALT: Make a Mobile to showcase the different forms of Energy.

Energy Rap Song

For our T-Shaped Literacy, my friend Harlem and I made an educational based rap song and music video that related back to energy. It explained the different types of energy and gave a few brief descriptions of how the energy worked, what the different types were; shows images of the different types of energy and also gave you examples of energy and how t save it.

WALT: Create a Rap song about Energy

WALT: Research a French-speaking country other than France

I chose to research Niger because it was one of the first on the list, I found this activity moderately easy but difficult because there was little to no Information about Niger as a country, Several sources gave me almost no Info so I had to go off on a whim.

Niger is a country in West Africa bordering Chad and is known for poverty and Radical. extremist groups

Cybersmart - Kawa of Care

WALT: Make and informative Presentation on a rule of the Kawa of Care

This is an aspect of the Kawa of Care which ties into anything you do, you should not be watching inappropriate videos on your Chromebook, you should not be Visiting Pornographic sites or watching 18+ Movies or looking at 18+ Photos.
