Converting Improper Fractions to Mixed numbers

WALT: Learn to convert improper fractions into a mixed number using long division.

As our Maths activity today we were tasked with reviewing a slideshow full of Improper fractions and were told to watch a youtube guide on how to convert said fractions into mixed numbers. This activity was extremely basic and simple once you begin to understand it, it is simple division mixed with addition and multiplication.

This task involves dividing numbers into each other, taking the results and using that to get the correct answer. This activity was challenging at the start, as I had to re watch the video several times during the first 2, but after that I got the hang of it, after that point it was smooth sailing.

I enjoyed this activity because it introduced me to some new Maths problems, before this I had no idea of what a mixed number even meant, leat alone how to convert one.

Please point out any mistakes or questions I got wrong in the comments and I will be sure to correct them, give it a go for yourself; ask your teacher if you can do a lesson on this.

Happy lockdown.

  1. Hi Carter,

Firstly great to see a detailed caption, and I am pleased you found this useful. Of course, ultimately you would would be able to do the working out in your head quickly, but great job.

  2. Hi Carter I love the way you described your learning process, clearly you now have a sound grasp of this new concept. When might you use this math concept in real life?
