ANZAC Crossword

For our Homework due to Coivd-19 we were set several reading tasks about books on ANZAC where we could choose an area to focus on.

For this Activity I chose the logic and math section and chose to make a crossword about it.

Have a go and see if you can read this or even have a go at the crossword by jotting it down in your own book.

Current events 25/3/20

Kia Ora Readers, in this post I will be explaining some of my feelings about the events happening in the world going on right now. Some questions that I have about the Covid-19 virus. How old do you need to be for the virus to be deadly towards you? Say if you’re 60, will the virus have the same effect if you’re 70 and above. I’m really sick of hearing about this virus though; it’s a regular flu that is just normal, but people are making such a huge fuss about it. Another question; Why bread? People just seem to be taking ALL the bread from all the supermarkets, going to new world and countdown is hopeless. There is NO Bread, Bread only lasts a few weeks max if it’s in the fridge, why not buy yeast and make your own bread? Some other concerns I have about this virus is what if it mutates? If the virus mutates into a deadly virus that can kill people that are young what will we do then? What if the virus just takes over the world? Think of World War Z. And also apparently there is a vaccine from Israel, but they worked on the vaccine for the virus before the outbreak and called it “Pure luck.” also an addon to this they are not signed to the biological warfare treaty, this may raise some concerns whether it is a man-made pathogen or just natural, and if it just the normal influenza flu why are people so worried about it? I also wonder if this virus is going to last for as long as the flu has, the flu jabs don’t seem to prevent the flu fully, so will the vaccine prevent the virus to its full extent?

All the talk on the news about is just trying to make people anxious about it os they worry about the virus and stock up on food and other items to prepare against this “Pandemic” that is “taking over the world” the news is just really making us think that it’s a terrible deadly virus that will EnSLAvE thE HUmaN RaCE. My opinion on this virus that is way worked up to be a terrible disease. Everyone is consumed about the media’s approach on it but they don’t really care, they just want money. I find Covid19.govt.nz to be a very reliable source to find out what is really going on about this.

Overall we aren't really worried and neither am I, we're in a good location and our family is very antisocial. I do like the 4 weeks off school.

Choose your own adventure

WALT: Create a choose your own adventure story revolving around our bike track at school.

This is a story Jason and I worked on, I think that the story is pretty funny if you choose certain answers, we did this as a task from Toki Pounamu. This only took a few days so don't be too harsh.

We found it challenging to try to link some slides because some are very similar, but it was challenging to think of ideas to write about.

We liked the outcome of the slides and liked how smooth it was to click through. Have a read and see what you think and put some feedback in the comments.

Growth Mindset quotes

"Persistence is key to Achieve your dreams"
-Carter, 2019

WALT: Create an original growth mindset quote.

This is my original quote; it reads: "Persistence is key to achieve your dreams" I made this quote to tell people that they need to keep trying if you want to make things come true.

I found it super challenging to try and think of a quote but I kept going with a growth mindset.

If you want to know what this means it is means that you know it's hard and you keep on going without saying. "I give up." "I can't do this.", Instead, you are positive.

I found it fun and enjoyable trying to fix it in the lines and was happy about the finished product.

This is a good idea if you want to suggest it to your Teacher / Class; and make sure you try and read the book: "The Dot" to go with this activity

Homemade balloon powered car

Image result for homemade balloon car

For our Year 6 forces and motion technology, we made homemade balloon cars. We made these cars out of cardboard for the body,  Bottle caps for the wheels and balloons for the power to push the car.

We found it challenging to make the wheels spin and most of all to get the balloon to push air out of the straw.

We found it fun/funny that our car didn't move, but when it did we got super excited and happy.

We encourage you to try this experiment for yourself/your class and see how far your cars can go.

Tin-foil Boat

WALT: Create a Tinfoil boat to float and hold the most amount of plastic cubes

For our Year 6 Tech, we created Tin-foil boats, Our goal was to make them be able to float and to hold the most amount of plastic cubes. As a result, our ship worked really well. When we put our boat in the sink it went well but sunk. We were able to fit 2 cubes inside.  The winner was able to fit 138 blocks inside their boat.

We found it challenging to Build/Construct our boat to make it float.
We found it fun/funny that it could hold 2 blocks as we thought it would just tip and sink.

We really liked this technology experiment for "Forces and Motion" and think you should try it for yourself.
